Omaha Hi-Lo vs Omaha vs Texas Hold'em
Play Omaha Hi-LoHow many cards can you use?
Texas Hold'em deals two hole cards; a five-card hand can use both, one or neither. Standard four-card Omaha deals four hole cards but requires exactly two of them and three community cards. Omaha Hi-Lo uses the same two-plus-three rule. Extra private cards create more possible combinations, not permission to use more cards.
One winner or two halves?
Regular Omaha is high-only. Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better awards high and a qualifying low, if one exists. A strong high draw can win only half a pot when low qualifies. Conversely, a low draw can fail to qualify or tie with another player. Evaluate both sides before counting a draw as a route to the whole pot.
Practical adjustments
A single ace of a suit cannot make an Omaha flush. A pocket pair needs three suitable board cards to form its final hand. Low-oriented cards such as A-2 have a role in Hi-Lo that they do not have in a high-only game. The Omaha Hi-Lo game on this site is not a Texas Hold'em or regular Omaha mode.
